Deepwell, a Broad Street Brewery Almost Open, and Downtown Mooresville's Fall Calendar

Deepwell opened at 185 N. Main St. on Wednesday, September 16. The night before, the earliest reservation for two was 8:30 p.m. on October 14, about a month away, CharlotteFive reported.

Main Street now has two kinds of evening. One gets booked a month ahead, and the other still works if you just show up. The new restaurant, the brewery and distillery about to open on Broad Street, and a calendar that runs into December all fit one or the other.

The table that books a month out

Deepwell comes from chef Joe Kindred and Katy Kindred. The couple also run Michelin-recommended Kindred in Davidson, plus Hello, Sailor, Milkbread and Albertine. CharlotteFive describes it as a New Orleans-inspired modern steakhouse built around wood-fired steak and seafood with some North Carolina touches.

The restaurant sits in a historic Main Street building. CharlotteFive describes checkered floors, street-lamp style fixtures, velvet chairs and cushioned banquettes. The bar runs along the front windows, and diners can see into the kitchen.

The menu notes worth knowing before you book:

  • To start: smoky redfish dip with brown butter Saltines, NOLA BBQ shrimp with sourdough and lemon, plus cured meats and aged cheeses.
  • Mains: Prime brisket with collard greens, Sea Island red peas and the couple's signature milk bread, or crispy NC flounder with pomme purée and peekytoe crab butter.
  • For the table: large-format steaks, a dry-aged whole NC-style BBQ duck, and smoked NC fish on the half shell.
  • To finish: wood-fired milk bread with Cheerwine caramel and sweet cream ice cream, chocolate cake, or key lime cheesecake.

The bar serves classic and house cocktails, wine, beer and spirit-free drinks. Before the doors opened, the team posted on Instagram, as CharlotteFive reported, "We are SO thrilled to join this amazing community in Mooresville. Thank y'all for the warm welcome."

For a birthday or an anniversary in November, the planning starts now on Deepwell's website.

The walk-in route is still open

The month-long wait only applies to the dining room. According to CharlotteFive, Deepwell holds a limited number of high-top and bar seats each night for walk-ins. On a weeknight, that can mean redfish dip and a cocktail by the front window with no reservation at all.

The Downtown Mooresville Social District makes the rest of a spontaneous evening easy. The Mooresville Town Board approved the district on May 16, with a follow-up approval on June 6. It runs under a 2021 state law that lets towns designate areas where adults 21 and older can carry a drink bought from a licensed business. In Mooresville, the hours are noon to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

These are the participating businesses on the district's official page:

Category

Participating businesses

Breweries and distillery

High Branch Brewing, Murto Made Distillery, On Tap Crafty Brews

Wine and spirits

202 North Main Fine Wines & Spirits, Stardust Cellars

Bars

158 on Main, Dive Bar, Big Tiny's

Food and coffee

Bae's Burgers, Dulcet & Delish, Famous Toastery Downtown, Summit Coffee

The page lists a few rules. Drinks have to come from a permitted business inside the district and be served in its specially marked cup. Personal alcohol isn't allowed. Any unfinished drink has to be poured out or thrown away before you leave the zone. Shops can opt out, so look for the decal on the door before walking in with a cup. The boundaries are marked with entrance and exit signs. The town's page has the current map. This is general information, not legal advice. The town's posted ordinance and signs govern.

So on a night without a reservation, you might take a pint from On Tap Crafty Brews to an event on Main, then try for a walk-in seat at Deepwell's bar.

Broad Street is next

The next downtown opening is on South Broad Street. Churchill Brothers Brewing and RudeDog Distillery are sharing a building at 275 S. Broad St. after a yearlong renovation, Lake Norman Publications reported on October 7. The project has passed its inspections and received a certificate of occupancy. At the time of that report, the owners were finishing their final steps with the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Both businesses still list a 2026 opening without a specific date on their sites, churchillbrothersbrewing.com and rudedogdistillery.com.

Both brands started as family projects. Brothers Joel and Nick Churchill founded Churchill Brothers Brewing. Joel brews and has been homebrewing for more than 20 years. Nick handles the business side, and Jamie Churchill helps with recipes. According to Lake Norman Publications, the family plans to source local ingredients when possible. Their stated goal, as quoted in that article, is "brew beer worth sharing."

RudeDog Distillery belongs to Dave "Rudy" Rudy and Sheri Rudy. Dave raced as a teenager in Wisconsin and later ran operations for the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Georgia. Racing brought the family to Mooresville in 2004. He started distilling after a visit to a moonshine festival, where he met the distillers who became his mentors. Sheri leads the creative side, from flavor ideas and product names to branding. "We're getting closer every day to opening our doors," the businesses said in the same report.

The same article mentions another project further out. The View Beer Garden & Sports Lounge is planned for 155 Pinnacle Lane, where Apps & Taps used to be, with waterfront dining and live entertainment. No opening date has been announced.

The Motors on Main details come from Murto Made's post on the Downtown Mooresville events calendar. The movie listing is on Visit Mooresville.

A Classic Christmas is the biggest night on the list. Visit Mooresville lists holiday lights, live entertainment, shopping, ice skating, wagon rides, Santa, and carousel and train rides. If you'd like dinner at Deepwell before or after, the October 14 opening-week booking suggests reserving about a month out, so mid-November is a sensible time to book.

Beyond Main Street: Eastern Heights Park

Not every outing needs to be downtown. The former Willow Valley Park reopened in June as Eastern Heights Park after a renovation, Queen City News reported. The 4.2-acre park now has a picnic pavilion, restrooms, an accessible playground, a walking trail and renovated basketball courts. On a cool November weekend, it's an easy afternoon before an evening downtown.

At Carolina Estate Properties, we follow downtown Mooresville closely because we work in it every day. If you're hosting friends or family this season, we're happy to share which nights on the calendar we'd plan around and where we'd go for dinner. Let's Connect.
